The month of June was rough. Last week with the death of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett, and Michael Jackson, I don't think that the US or the world for that matter has seen such in the entertainment industry. Others that passed this month was Billy Mays, Gale Storm, Charlie Mariano, Bob Bogle, then to hear yesterday that Karl Malden passed just left me thinking about how the elders use to say that death comes in 3's. Our hearts go out to all families in their time of bereavement. The most tragic entertainment loss for me to this point has to be Michael Jackson. To see the information come in "Michael Jackson massive heart attack to Michael Jackson has passed away" in a matter of hours left the whole world speechless. His music will last forever, my favorite song "Heaven Can Wait" followed by "Human Nature, Lady In My Life, Break Of Dawn, and Never Can Say Goodbye". There was a side of him if you listened to those songs he definitely was talking about a special someone in his life at those times. The music world is loosing the true meaning of music because personally I feel the industry is too much in the right now instead of what will last forever. The artists that really need to be in the forefront can't seem to get rotation, marketing, and promotion needed to help them sustain for the future or become icons. I don't think we will ever see the likes of these icon stars again until the labels start supporting good quality hits again and the radio/internet stations play them. What are your thoughts, who do you think we have left, or who do you think will be the next global icon? Post your comments on NJCTV.com, Facebook, Myspace, and other place you may see this blog.
Next week, my thoughts on the Gov. of South Carolina (yeah baby)
Have you ever had a loss of word for anything, whether it be for a speech, for a paper, or in my case a newsletter? For the pass couple weeks I've haven't had anything to talk about. Some would say, it's the early signs of Alzheimer's disease. I'm asking myself, how does this happen when there is news all around us from politicians disappearing and having affairs to the death of an entertainment icon like Ed McMahon. I think sometimes as writers or creative people we have so many other things going on in our lives that sometime we lose focus of the task at hand. Focus like, you can be talking with someone and have this thought in your mind and in a split second forget what you were about to say (so frustrating), you have a mental block when writing lyrics or arrangements for songs, and for that matter you misplace something you just put down. It seems like your flow kind of drys up and it leaves you wondering where did it go. I've heard some songwriters say there isn't any such thing as a loss of words/writers block, at first I believed them until now. My feelings on this is matter now is, I don't want to write just anything for the people, for me that would be like dumbing down lyrics to sell cd's, Lord knows we have enough empty stuff to look and listen to everyday. My plan is to refocus, find that balance again in my life to start my creative writing skills working again. Truth be told, it sucks sometimes having a loss of words. If there is anything you would like for me to talk about drop me a comment, lets get some dialog going on the newsletter.
What a weekend coming up! NJC would like to welcome all tourists to Nashville this weekend for the CMA Music Festival. There will be tons of great entertainment for all. Just get where you want to go early, make sure you try and visit ALL the live music venues as possible, visit the Country Music Hall of Fame, Musicians Hall of Fame, Riverfront Park, and LP Field.
Let's go down I-24E about 70 miles to Winchester for one of the world's largest music festival Bonnaroo where they estimate there will be close to 80,000 plus in attendance this year for the 4 day event. The line up this year is insane, but what made me feel good is Vertigo, one of the artists on season 2 of NJC will be performing, congrats on that Vertigo!
Last weekend Max Fabulous and I had the opportunity to attend the open house of The Nashville Film Institute at The Factory in Franklin, TN. This state of the art facility will take you through their program in 9 months time and will have you ready to pursue your career in film and television when you leave. We spoke with a lot of Partners of NFI and they spoke on how exciting it was to be part of something from conception.
Something else to look forward to:
